Updated: Further homes in East Village have now been handed over
This brings the number of apartments and townhouses completed and transferred by the Olympic Delivery Authority to East Village’s long-term legacy owners to 684 – with an additional 98 homes in the latest to be completed (N26 North).
This builds on the completion of the previous three plots - N10 (281 homes), N09 (120) and N13 (185), and in total now provides 365 market rental properties, and 319 affordable homes. First residents moved into East Village in late 2013 and there are now more than 250 apartments and townhouses occupied at East Village by families, couples, individuals and sharers.
With more new homes now available, there are a range of options at East Village to suit everyone, from private rented apartments with Get Living London, to shared ownership, social and intermediate rent with Triathlon Homes.
A Management Office at Celebration Avenue in East Village is now open for people to come and find out more about the new homes Get Living London and Triathlon Homes have available. People can also find out more information and register their interest at www.eastvillagelondon.co.uk East Village was last week announced as the ‘Best New Place to Live’ at the London Planning Awards.
All homes are equipped with brand new kitchens and new floor coverings, with a balcony, private terrace or wintergarden and centred around a residents’ courtyard, or residents’ atrium in the case of N09, with neighbouring public spaces including parklands, wetlands and children’s play areas, all on the doorstep of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Westfield Stratford City.
During the period since the end of the Paralympic Games the ODA’s development manager, Lend Lease, has been working with contractors to remove temporary games-time features and make good wear and tear from intensive use by 23,000 athletes and officials. The new designer kitchens have been fitted in the space used to accommodate extra beds during the Games, with temporary partitions being removed, so creating bigger rooms.
Properties have been checked by an independent certifier to ensure they are of consistent high quality and satisfy the requirements of Get Living London and Triathlon Homes.
Mike Cornelius, the ODA’s Director of Village and Commercial, said: “Around a quarter of the 2,818 new apartments and townhouses in this huge project have now been completed and handed over, and ,East Village is fast becoming an exciting, new community, a great place for families, couples and individuals to live.
“Each home was individually checked before being signed off, a process that was complex and time-consuming. We understand the eagerness of families and individuals to move in, and we are grateful for their patience while this important work has been carried out.”
The separate southern part of the N26 plot, with a further 144 new homes, is expected to be finished and handed over before the end of February and Lend Lease and their contractors are now working to also complete the remaining plots, with up to 318 homes in each. About 2,300 workers remain on other parts of the site, including painters, electricians, plumbers, fitters and joiners. The outstanding accommodation plots will be handed over in phases during 2014.
Young residents of East Village are among students at Chobham Academy, which opened in September 2013. The first 22 enrolled in January, taking student numbers above the 600 mark, with more than 100 staff. Further Village residents will be joining the school on a phased basis at the start of terms and after half-term breaks. The Sir Ludwig Guttmann Health and Wellbeing Centre, which is providing GP and pharmacy services for East Village and the wider local community, opened in November and now has 500 patients registered.
The northern part of the N26 plot contains five residential blocks, with the names following a multi-coloured theme: Kaleidoscope House, Patina Mansions and three known as Spectra House. Triathlon Homes is responsible for 55 homes, including social rent, shared ownership and intermediate rent properties. Get Living London has 43 homes available for private rental.
Each of the East Village plots was designed by a different architect to ensure a variety of styles and approaches and dRMM were responsible for the northern N26 plot. Working with Lend Lease, Galliford Try was responsible for construction and post-Games transformation of N26.
